Providing Compassionate Care for Laboring Parents

EDLSV Scope:
  • The volunteer role is supportive and entirely non-clinical, resembling that of a knowledgeable family member.

  • Emotional support, fostering a calm and peaceful environment.

  • Promotion of physical comfort using non-pharmacologic means.

  • Making suggestions to promote labor progress (approved by the patient’s primary RN).

  • Assisting the patient in understanding procedures through simple clarifications or helping them ask questions.

  • Unplugging and plugging in monitors when assisting the patient to the bathroom.

  • Breastfeeding assistance (if the volunteer has adequate training).

  • Doula activities are limited to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

No previous experience is necessary to apply, but please keep in mind that we require a minimum commitment of two shifts per month for 6 months from all volunteers.
